Despite steady economic growth in Australia, the number of homeless people keeps rising. With no clear national plan and a lack of affordable housing, there’s no sign of this social issue getting better.
Homelessness continues to grow in Australia. According to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, more than 116.000 people can’t afford a house, a number that increased by 14% in the past few years. Of these people, around 20% are Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander while other 30% were born overseas.
The figures also shows that for 10 thousand Australians, 50 are homeless. On top of that, more than 43 thousand homeless people are under 25 years old.
