No dam for Rathdowney but dam plans persist

A community group in Rathdowney, Queensland has had a win today, with Premier Peter Beattie announcing the government would not be pressing ahead with plans to build a dam near the township. As covered on The Wire a few months back, under the banner of the No Dam for Rathdowney Action Group, a grass roots campaign sprung up with the aim of stopping the dam, over concerns that it would impact on eco-systems that depended on the Logan river, and lead to the slow death of their 3000-strong township. However, a dam will instead go ahead near the town of Wyaralong, further down the river Logan.
