No clear home for skills of laid-off Fairfax printing workers

With all the discussion surrounding the impacts of the Fairfax shakeup on journalism, one group of workers hasn’t received as much attention. That’s the people who print the newspapers. Hundreds of workers in Sydney and Melbourne printing facilities have been told that they’re likely to lose their jobs. Lorraine Cassin is the national secretary of the AMWU print division. She says many of the workers have skills specific to printing broadsheet newspapers, skills that aren’t easily transferrable to another job.
