NT Chief Minister Adam Giles has drawn ire with a Facebook post about so-called ‘rogue youths’ who ‘break into homes’.

He suggested limiting the grant of bail in response to the juvenile group’s acts.

Yet Indigenous advocacy groups as well as legal associations think this punitive and senseless. They say spending to preventing crime is the best way to go – not further populating the NT’s already relatively heaving, predominantly Indigenous prisons.

The NT Law Society President, Tass Liveris, explains this position.
