While the Australian parliament remains gridlocked on wedlock, back in April, New Zealand’s federal parliament passed the Definition of Marriage Act allowing gay marriage. Today, is the day for gay couples to be legally married in New Zealand. Nine same sex couples will head down the aisle, including an Australian couple.

Following the success of New Zealand’s Campaign for Marriage Equality, Air New Zealand ran a competition for New Zealand lesbian couple to tie the knot mid flight. Positively Wellington Tourism also ran a competition and selected an Australian gay couple from Newcastle to wed at the national museum in Tepapa.
