New South Wales inhumane kangaroo killing is revealed
A parliament inquiry and leaked internal documents reveal the unregulated and inhumane killing culture of kangaroo and other macropods in New South Wales.
The Environment Committee’s three day parliamentary hearing found the New South Wales Department of Planning, Industry and Environment have neglected the protection of kangaroos, that by law are protected under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
New South Wales Department of Planning, Industry and Environment’s own staff leaked internal documents to the ABC about the complaints made against the Kangaroo Management program.
The documents revealed how 70 percent of complaints made by Department’s staff were not followed by compliance action.
The Department’s 2019 audit on the program revealed that it would be impossible to work out how many kangaroos have been slaughtered by landholders and the meat industry.
