As Victoria enters a further two weeks of stage 4 lock down restrictions, the Premier has announced a new measure to mediate the effects of the harsh isolation on some Victorians.

From September 14, those who live alone or in single parent households can nominate a family member or friend as part of their ‘social bubble’ whom they can visit with in their homes.

The Covid 19 pandemic has had disastrous effects on the already concerning rates of Loneliness in Australia. Relationships Australia says that in the long term loneliness can have effects on not only our mental well being but our physical health.

However in a time where isolation is a matter of public health, introducing the social bubbles is a promising step towards the governments acknowledgement of this issue and provides those Victorians doing it tough with a new optimism.
