New renewable energy laws passed in Germany last week are expected to boost the country’s mix of renewable energy to 20% by 2020. As the biggest energy consumers in Europe, and the fifth highest per capita greenhouse gas producers (Australia is the highest), any increase in Germany’s renewable energy is good news for climate change. Kate Hairsine spoke to Sven Teste, Engineer with the Renewables Campaign, Greenpeace Germany; Ralf Bischopf, Spokesperson for the Bundesverband Windenergie (German Wind Energy Association); and Dr Elmar Klein, a spokesperson from the German organisation “Against Wind.”
