Children overboard, security in our airports and concerns about our national security agencies – these are all issues that have come to our attention, thanks to public servants brave enough to blow the whistle. But at what cost to themselves and their families? A parliamentary enquiry into whistle blower protection released its results today and head of the Enquiry, MP Mark Drefyuss, says the current organisational culture in the public service discourages people from speaking out. He recommends a new process to be overseen by the commonwealth ombudsman. But will that be enough to protect whistleblowers?
