Today is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. It is a problem within our society that happens in institutions and the home. Like many forms of abuse it is hidden and not discussed frequently. International research shows that 3-4 % of people over 65 suffer abuse and the majority of abusers are family and friends. A national meeting of Elders has gathered to discussed solutions to this violence and other challenges in Indigenous communities. Lois Towney says the result was a call for a National Elders Council.
