After 27 years as the head of the Northern Land Council, Galarrwuy Yunupingu announced in August that he would resign. He’s fired parting shots at the Federal, state and Territory governments, accusing them of taking Aboriginal issues and reconciliation off the agenda. Last week the 78 regional council representatives of the Northern Land Council met in Darwin to choose a new Chairman. Gupapuyngu man Binalany Goonbalga, from Buckingham Bay in East Arnhem Land, was given the top job.
