A report commissioned by Victoria’s Workplace Rights Advocate has found that recent changes to Federal workplace laws have made it easier for employers to restructure their businesses and sack workers in the process. The report, released today by Monash University’s Dr Anthony Forsyth, focuses on one aspect of the Workchoice laws – the provision allowing workers to be dismissed for genuine operational reasons. He says the change in terminology from the previous wording of operational “requirements” to operational “reasons” means that employees have less protection under the new laws.
