New carer reforms needed
The carers who look after our community’s most vulnerable deserve more compensation, especially women, says the Australian Human Rights Commission.
Being an indispensable part of the economy the commission wants to recognize their value in society and alleviate the constraints they face in their daily lives. Sex Discrimination Commissioner, Elizabeth Broderick, has released a report that outlines areas of reform that will support unpaid caring in Australia and value the role played by everyday carers. It will also asses the value of women in the industry and the current superannuation, taxation and employment systems that severely disadvantage them.
