The secrecy surrounding the detention and alleged torture of former Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks is about to be challenged. A group of legal officials and human rights activists have sent an open letter to the Prime Minister Julia Gillard calling for an independent investigation into Hicks’ incarceration. They call the challenge The Justice Campaign. Mr Hicks. was arrested in 2001 for allegedly training with the Taliban. He was detained at Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba until he signed a plea agreement in 2007. He’s seeking exoneration from his suspended conviction because he claims it was handed down in illegal circumstances.
