New critically acclaimed Netflix show, After Life, from British comedian Ricky Gervais, may have surged great press overseas, although, in Australia, the show has garnered more attention for its misrepresentation of sacred Indigenous artwork.

The show prominently features a piece of fake Indigenous artistry, taken from the art style of the Papunya community, located outside of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.

Calling into question the greater impacts of cultural theft on Indigenous art, After Life has sparked conversation on the misrepresentation of Indigenous cultures and traditions in the media.
