NDIS shifts focus: personalised autism support
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is making significant updates in how it supports people with autism, shifting from focusing only on diagnoses too considering everyone’s unique needs.
However, Bill Shorten’s, the Minister for the National Disability Insurance Scheme of Australia, suggestion challenges the old idea that having a diagnosis automatically qualifies you for NDIS support.
Damian Medley, an experienced Occupational Therapist at the NDIS for six years, believes this could change how professionals work together to support those with autism. This shift calls for a careful review of current practices within the NDIS to better assist individuals navigating autism spectrum disorders.
