National school curriculum an ideology
The Federal Parliamentary Minister for Education Julie Bishop took a scathing swipe at state education today, by announcing that school curriculums are being hijacked by left-wing ideologies. At the History Teacher’s Association conference today, Julie Bishop even went so far as to say some of the themes being taught are straight from Chairman Mao. It’s all part of a push towards a nationalised curriculum, but are these comments doing more harm than good. Associate Professor at the University of Technology Sydney, Geoff Riordan seems to think her comments are uncalled for, and that any style of curriculum will be based on an ideology whether it be progressive or traditional.
