The largest Health Survey for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people was released on Tuesday 11th April. The ABS (Australian Bureau of Statistics) survey of 10 and a half thousand people from 2004-2005 revealed that Indigenous Australians health status is still appalling low compared to non-Indigenous Australians. Indigenous People are dying 17 years earlier than their non -Indigenous counterparts. Mr Henry Councillor, Chair of National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (NACCHO) states there are no surprise findings and just more data to support their long held position of a holistic approach.
