Imagine the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground, but rather than cricket or AFL being played there, picture it filled to the top of the stands, with food waste.

Stale sandwiches, soggy pasta, mouldy tomatoes, and then imagine that ten times and you have the 7.6 million tons of food waste created by this country each year.

Perhaps it’s not surprising therefore that there is national food waste summit going on in Melbourne to try and grapple with how this problem can be overcome.

Jahan Rezakhanlou contacted Francesca Goodman-Smith, from Food Waste Australia to find out more about this issue.
