Almost half of Australia’s 250 traditional languages are considered endangered and the issue is the focus of NAIDOC Week 2017.

Indigenous communities are working to awaken these languages, using a variety of methods from pop music to apps to dictionaries to record their words and stories.

Preservation is key to keeping these cultures alive and to teaching future generations about Australia’s first peoples.
