This week is national Mental Health Week in Australia and Aboriginal health leaders call for open and honest discussion about Indigenous mental health issues. With the Indigenous suicide rate 70% higher than non-indigenous Australians, National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation want to focus attention on how to reduce suicide mortality in Indigenous communities across Australia. I spoke earlier to Justin Mohamed, chair of NACCHO, about what strategies need to be put into place to address the issue of Indigenous mental health.
