Myanmar’s new family planning laws target Rohingya people

During the past few months, thousands of refugees have been stranded at sea; moving aimlessly between Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia after being abandoned by people smugglers. Among those refugees are the Rohingya people from Myanmar, who make up about 4% of Myanmar’s mainly Buddhist population and are discriminated against by the government because they are Muslim. Since 1982, the Myanmar government has rendered them stateless and is now passing new laws limiting their right to bear children.
