The UN has labelled the ongoing crisis in the Muslim-majority Rakhine state of Myanmar as “genocide”, but experts say this won’t have much of an impact on the plight of the Rohingya population fleeing persecution.
Despite the report released by the UN Human Rights Council last week labelling the violence against the Rohingya in Myanmar as “genocide” and calling for the prosecution of several Myanmar military leaders, one expert says this is far from a likely outcome.
