Anthony Lowenstein is Jewish, but his book about Israel and Middle east politics has made him a pariah in the Australian Jewish community. His criticism of Israel’s treatment of Palestinians has had him labelled as a self-hating Jew, and anti-Zionist. The idea for the book “My Israel Question” really began back in 2003 when Lowenstein wrote an article for the Sydney Morning Herald suggesting that Israeli occupation of Palestinian land must end if there was ever to be any chance of peace in the Middle East.
