In the early 1800’s many Europeans held shooting parties and hunting tours, brutally attacking Aboriginal Australians – then taking their remains as trophies and often removing them to Britain for scientific probing. Finally the Federal Government has agreed to fund a David verse Goliath battle in the British High Court – between the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre (TAC) and the Museum. Indigenous cultural policy expert, Bob Weatherall says the remains represent the genocide. TAC Legal Director, Michael Mansell says it’s high time to resolve the matter. Amnesty International’s Indigenous Rights Campaigner, Rodney Dillon says Indigenous community organisations should lead the charge on repatriation.
