The Murri Principal of a small primary school in the indigenous community of Cherbourg – has been named Queenslander of the year. Chris Sarra has been acknowledged for his dedication to the children of Cherbourg State School. Speaking to Ed Knowles from MOB FM in Mt Isa, Mr Sarra described himself as feeling good but overwhelmed to be receiving the award. He’s attributing his success to teamwork and says the victory must go to all of Cherbourg. Of the three nominees for the state’s top honour – two were Indigenous. The second was Aboriginal woman Pamela Croft – a visual artist from Central Queensland. Ms Croft also spoke to Ed Knowles.
