As anti-government protests continue and widen, the regime in Egypt continues to support President Hosni Mubarak. This is the man who has been turned against by his people, who has been accused of corruption and of removing billions of dollars from the country for his own personal use. Apart from the fear of who may fill the power vacuum, it’s hard to imagine why he should stay. One person who argues that he should is Adjunct Professor Bob Bowker from the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies at ANU.
