Tens of thousands of people attended climate change rallies around the country yesterday, calling for ambitious action to cut Australia’s emissions. People gathered in all capital cities, including over 10 000 people in Melbourne and more than 8000 in Sydney. Climate change activism had a quiet year last year. But the last week has seen a flurry of activity as NGOs and community groups declare their support for action. Polling shows that the public remains cool on the idea of a carbon tax, but organizers say that the momentum of their campaign is building.
