‘Most popular’ internet search items an indicator of worrying societal attitudes

“Women shouldn’t vote”, “women should stay at home” and “women should be seen and not heard” – these are just some of the examples of what automatically pops up when you type ‘women’ into a search engine. UN Women is currently using these results in a new global campaign to show how sexist attitudes are a worldwide problem, but it’s not just prejudice against women that’s reflected in popular internet searches.
