Indigenous health research has been used to drive controversial policies such as the Intervention, as well as policies to address the substantial inequality in life expectancy – between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. And now ways of conducting this research more ethically are being looked at. This ethical approach extends to the cultural sensitivities involved when going into Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander communities to conduct health research.
