Mordechai Vanunu speaks out
Mordechai Vanunu was a technician at Dimona, Israel’s secret nuclear development site, from 1976 to 1985. He leaked photos and information about Israel’s secret nuclear development program to the British Sunday Times. Mossad, Israel’s secret service, lured him from London to Rome where he was kidnapped and flown back to Israel. He was secretly tried and sentenced to eighteen years in prison, eleven of them in solitary confinement. He was released in April this year under very tough restrictions. He is not allowed to leave his home town, nor allowed to talk to foreigners. In an Australian exclusive, Jonathan Lucraft spoke to Mordechai Vanunu about his time in prison, what his actions meant for peace in the Middle East and his hopes for the future. Jonathan also spoke to Dr Michael Sullivan from Flinders University about the political ramifications of Mordechai’s arrest.
