Mining in Wildlife Sanctuaries
Regardless of your opinion on uranium mines and their consequences, putting a mine in a wildlife sanctuary seems like a bad idea. It is, after all, an environmentally protected area. But it seems that Marathon Resources don’t think it’s such a bad idea and nor do the South Australian government. Marathon resources are currently doing feasibility studies to assess the possibility of new mine at Mount Gee, located in the Arkaroola Wildlife Sanctuary in South Australia’s North. And it’s perfectly legal for them to go ahead and put their mine there. Marathon Resources didn’t respond to any of the Wire’s inquiries so Mark Parnell joined the show to speak about the issue and the bill he’s proposing to protect wildlife sanctuaries from mining.
