Mining may be one way to help developing nations alleviate poverty, according to the Federal Government. The Australian Government is investing $127 million dollars over four years to create and manage mining projects in some developing countries.

The initiative aims to increase economic growth and government revenue, which in turn will create jobs and investment in services like health care and education. But activists say there are more negatives than positives when it comes to this type of investment.
