As the state election in New South Wales draws closer, the spotlight has turned onto the issue of mining in the resource-rich Hunter Valley. The struggling Labor government has made a last-ditch effort to regain votes by proposing to ban the use of some chemicals used in the coal mining process, and to make some zones completely off limits to mining. But how will voters be affected by the proposals, and has the Government waited too long to announce them?
