More than 20 incidents of self-harm or attempted suicide by refugees detained on Manus Island have been reported in the wake of Australia’s federal election.

Since Coalition was re-elected on May 18, the local hospital on Manus Island has been struggling to cope with the influx of incidents.

While Labor had promised to accept 150 refugees from Manus Island and Nauru – much to the delight of many in the detention centres – the Coalition planned to cap Australia’s refugee intake.
