New advances in 3D printing and stem cell technology has the potential to fix up hearts after damage from heart attacks.

This would obviate the need for high-risk heart transplants in many cases, as effectively new heart material can be generated to fit into the part that has been damaged.

The stem cell technology prevents the rejection problems with heart transplants, as the body does not reject the new heart “patch”.
