Medibank Private is facing a potential class action lawsuit claiming it failed to protect sensitive customer data.

The private health insurance company was hit by a major data breach, which say the personal health information of all its current and past customers being stolen by hackers.

Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, has begun an investigation into Medibank to ascertain whether the company had a responsibility to ensure customer data was protected.
