The war may have ended in Sri Lanka, but questions remain about the role of the Sri Lankan government in the conflict and whether human rights abuses have occurred. Over in the middle east, the same questions have been raised by the UN about the behaviour of the Israeli government in the Gaza conflict in January this year. But why is it after the fact that the human rights abuses often emerge? And is the media complicit in not reporting the stories of those on the other side? And why is reporting worse here in Australia than overseas?
