A media blackout in Afghanistan was enforced by officials this week in the lead-up to yesterday’s elections. The rationale was to give voters peace of mind going to the polling booths. What actually happened, was that Afghani citizens were either fed misinformation about the violence, or simply stayed away because they were uncertain. Either way, low voter turn-out was expected.
