Mandatory sentencing invites influx of Aboriginal incarceration

The recent lockout laws introduced by Barry O’Farrell will see a crackdown on alcohol fuelled violence in NSW. As part of this scheme a mandatory eight-year minimum jail sentencing for fatal one-punch assaults will be introduced. However experts say that this will have a detrimental effect on the Aboriginal community and will see an increased number of Aboriginal men and women in prison.
