Ten years ago, Australia was shocked to wake to the news that a passenger plane had been shot down over eastern Ukraine.

All of the nearly 300 passengers and crew on board the Malaysian Airline MH17, flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumper died, including 38 Australians.

It began a pain-staking effort to understand what had happened and who was to be held to account.

Five years ago, four Russian men were accused and charged.

Australian Federal Police, Chief Forensic Scientist, Dr Simon Walsh who led Australia’s efforts in the Netherlands told the Wire’s Martin Davies when he first got the call about the incident.
