As we come closer to the tenth anniversary of 9/11 debate is still raging about the West’s response to the attack, and whether the decision to go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan have done anything to reduce the risk of terrorism and progress democracy in the Middle East. Writer, feminist and anti-war activist Malalai Joya is currently touring Australia to gather support for her position that democracy cannot be achieved through occupation.

Described as the bravest and most famous woman in Afghanistan, she was the youngest person to have been elected to the Afghan parliament, and has been outspoken in her criticism of the Hamid Karzai regime for its alleged corruption and lack of democracy.So have the  forces in Afghanistan done anything to reduce the power of the Taliban and the risk of terrorism in the world?
