Make Poverty History takes it’s message to Canberra
People from all over Australia have converged on Canberra for the start of the Make Poverty History Summit. They want the federal government to meet the agreed international amount of spending to wipe out poverty in developing nations. Australia is currently falling well short of the 0.7 percent of gross national income expenditure the world’s 22 wealthiest countries need to commit for this cause. We are ranked 14th in terms of wealth, but this year’s budget set aside only 35 cents of every $100 to help those worse off. The Oaktree Foundation is an organisation of young people who want to end global poverty. They are pleased with progress made but say more needs to be done.
