3000 US Dollar – that was the price women had to pay to get tested for breast cancer in the US. The test was offered by only one company, Myriad Genetics who owned the patent on breast cancer genes. American Civil Liberties Union sued them and won. A US district court ruled the patents invalid today, saying they “are directed to a law of nature and were therefore improperly granted.”
