Nicolas Maduro wins Venezuelan election by a narrow margin. Former bus driver and Hugo Chavez’s chosen successor, Maduro had 50.7 per cent of the votes over 49.1 per cent earned by the opposition candidate Henrique Capriles. The acting president had only 300 000 votes more than the opposition leader. In a country with an electorate of 29 million people that is rather a slim win.

Some experts say, Chavez’s strategy adopted by Maduro is not sustainable and won’t be able to keep the country afloat for much longer. However, the election results show that the majority of the country still wants the socialist head of state.
