Environment Minister Senator Penny Wong said today that there just isn’t enough water in the system to save the lower reaches of the Murray. Greens Senator Sarah Hanson Young says the problem is less the lack of water than the lack of political toughness to get the states to agree to send water down. Mayor of the Alexandrina Council met with four other mayors from riverside councils in the area today – he said they are determined to get water down the river somehow and will be holding a major rally this weekend to get more notice from states upstream of the plight the area is in as the Lower Lakes become more acidic.
