Long-term policies needed for food security in Africa

The humanitarian crisis looming in the African nation of Niger has thrown the spotlight once again on the food insecurity that persists on that continent. But a new report out today by is highly critical of the way that food crises are being handled in Africa, the authors place some of the blame partially on the shoulders of the way food aid is delivered from countries such as the United States. The report by non-government organization Oxfam Australia says that after five decades of responding to food crises, the international community must force a change of attitudes that will see long-term solutions embraced for what are now well known problems.
