Adelaide’s satelite city Elizabeth was built around the car industry. A series of closures and restructurings of the car plants in the area has made unemployment quite an issue, and the news that non-English-speaking workers from Eastern Europe had been brought in to build a new paint factory has local workers seething. Secretary of the local branch of the Manufacturing workers’ Union John Camillo says questions need to be answered about the visas that allow companies to import lower paid workers so easily.
