Some were shipwrecked. Others were convicts who escaped into the bush. In the very early days of colonisation a handful of people found themselves taken in  by and living with Aboriginal people. Their insights into culture at the time and the accounts of the indigenous people who looked after these ‘wild whites’, often believing them to be returned spirits, have been collected into a book Living with the Locals.
