The Federal government has offered Australian farmers $150 thousand to make their transition off properties less painful. According to the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ABARE) the move is part of a long term agenda to adopt the industry to looming effects of climate change. Investment in non-farm assets and the migration of farmers to new industries and regions are spart of a wider plan to keep agriculture alive and profitable. The strategy means opportunity for some and devastation for others. And health professionals warn the effects of finding farmers new jobs are not just financial.
